The Blue Violin - Lila Hood

Lila Hood, Founder and Executive Director
From an early age, Lila knew that music was her passion. After performing at Carnegie Hall with the New York String Orchestra for the first time in 1992, she felt a sense of urgency to take classical music to underserved communities. That mission has blossomed into the well-established Blue Violin Classes as we know it today! Her first electric violin was blue, and it quickly became a draw for young students who had never seen a violin played how she played it! For over three decades, Lila has shared the joy of music with thousands of children nationwide through her community programs, string workshops, school concerts, and live performances. It is her hope to ensure "arts access for all" and to eliminate the barriers that prevent children from learning to play a string instrument. And yes, the piano is a string instrument too!  Lila now offers lessons in Suzuki violin, viola, cello, guitar, and bass in addition to lesson offerings in traditional piano and voice. Lila has provided over 500 free community performances in her career to expose audiences to the string instruments, classical music, and numerous other musical genres. Her former students and mentees are now working professionally in the Arts themselves now as adults.
